Ann Curry

Ann Curry, an American photographer and journalist who has covered wars as well as natural disasters over the past 45 years. Her focus is on the plights of those within these zones. Curry was a reporter for wars covering Kosovo, Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Ann Curry (born on November 19th, 1956 in the city of Agana) was an American anchor, television reporter as well as a journalist. Curry is famous for reporting catastrophes caused by natural or human causes and natural disasters, particularly in countries who have been ravaged by conflicts. Curry was born in Japan, and raised by an Japanese mother. Her father served as an U.S. Navy sailor. The couple met when her father was in Japan following World War II. Her father was in the military and her family was forced to relocate often. The family eventually moved to Ashland Oregon where Curry attended high school. In 1978 she graduated in 1978 from in the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. The diversity of her experiences and her life experiences may have shaped her empathy approach to communicating about issues of international significance. Ashland was her final high school. In her time as an intern at KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregon she was able to lay the foundation for a long and successful broadcasting career. She became one of the very first women to be a reporter of KTVL's history when she turned 22. Then, she moved on to become an anchor and reporter at KGW KGW, an NBC affiliate station located in Portland. Then she returned to Los Angeles four years later in the role of a reporter at KCBS TV. It was during her association with this station for six years that she received two Emmy Awards.
